September 29 marks International Coffee day, so don’t feel bad about having that second (or fifth) cup on the day devoted to the elixir that keeps us focused and alert.
Here are 5 things you can do to “perk up” your living space today:
Decluttering is a great (and free) way to boost the visual appeal of a space. By removing clutter from tabletops and flat surfaces, the space will visually flow better, and thus be more pleasing to the eye. Have a piece of furniture that never gets used? Remove it and rearrange everything to make the space appear larger. A decluttered room also feels more high end.
Get an Indoor Plant
The benefits of indoor plants are twofold: they add natural beauty to any space, and they also clean the air. If you’ve got flowering plants such as geraniums or gardenias inside, they’ll also add a pleasant scent to the room.
Paint an Accent Wall
An accent wall is any wall that is a different color from the others in a room. Accent walls add style and depth to a space, and they can be used as a springboard for a host of other decorating projects such as hanging wall art, or being a backdrop for a sculpture or a piece of antique furniture.
Get Some Throw Pillows
Plush, overstuffed pillows on seating surfaces add an element of elegance and luxury to a room. In addition, they are super comfortable to rest on or to place on your lap as an armrest. Aim for 22 inch covers with 24 inch inserts. Down is best, but if you’re allergic, a high quality man made stuffing will also do the trick.
Area Rugs are Your Friend
Adding a rug to any room is a great way to add warmth and a pop of color. A rule of thumb when purchasing an area rug: bigger is almost always better. Also, if you have pets or children, a wool rug is preferable over silk, as it wears better and is easier to clean.
