Feng Shui’s Rise in Home Design

When it comes to selling a home, there are certain tried and true steps that have been proven to reduce the amount of time your home spends on the market and boost the odds of finding a buyer (i.e.: staging, lawn maintenance, being near good schools, etc.).  Have you ever given much thought to feng shui?  With the increase in buyers from China, it’s becoming an increasingly important factor in attracting these customers coming from one of the largest countries and economies in the world.  Over $20 billion in the property sold in the United States last year came from Chinese buyers.

Feng shui is a philosophical system developed by the Chinese that focuses on ensuring harmony with the environment.  In China, building designers use this system to plan out several details of a building, from its interior design to its architecture.  With the influx of Chinese buyers seeking homes with bathrooms that are not within the center of the home or stairs that don’t face the door, there has been a proliferation in real estate agents, designers and developers trained in feng shui.

In Miami Beach, the Ritz-Carlton Residences decided to use the services of feng shui expert Patrick Wong.  With more and more properties like this one looking to attract foreign buyers, reading up on feng shui is something worth considering if you’re planning on remodeling or upgrading your home to attract buyers.
